Have you see the video I put on the home page of Hawaii's Iz (Israel) Kamakawiwo'ole's beautiful rendition of 'Somewhere over the Rainbow'? It wasn't until I'd watched it a couple of times that I realised that it showed scenes from his memorial service. It's definitely worth listening to. I would love to have our own singers/ song writers performing at the next Community Day, which will be in the summer holidays this year. Planning for this means applying for an event license, so if you want to have an open mic competition or poetry slam, please get in touch.
Thanks to Rosie Kelsall from Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust for coming to visit us here on Oakdale today. Rosie is a Community Wildlife Officer and could see the potential for the meadow land straight away, even though we weren't able to take a close look at the site as it's currently behind the building site fencing for the bus link.
If you are interested in helping to campaign for or in creating a community orchard and veggie garden for Oakdale, please, please, we need feedback. It helps with our grant applications and to encourage others who might be thinking about getting involved as well. I have put the results of the CONNECT survey on the Oakdale Showcase pages now, without names. The more results we get, the better we can make a case for funding and this in turn could lead to other grant awarders becoming involved. We need to get the ball rolling and it can happen with just five minutes of your time to do the survey.
