Unfortunately, instead of a day spent out in the fresh air getting loads of exercise hauling sails up and quanting a boat, today was spent indoors with a poorly boy. No excuse whatsoever for eating cake, but there are crumbs left, not much more and the boy doesn't like it. Next time, I will have to make a cake out of something I don't like, which is a choice between marzipan and celery. One Oakdale Links member is allergic to nuts, so that leaves celery. Or I could just print out this photo and stick it onto the cake tin.
But don't underestimate the power of cake in building community. The Church of England, the WI and other redoubtable institutions cottoned onto this many years ago. Even the Health and Wellbeing Board have been known to partake of the occasional biscuit-based snack. If I perfect my recipe for celery cake, I will let them have a copy.
We did talk about some sensible things now and then and have a date for the Annual General Meeting amongst other things, including a bike maintenance workshop during the Easter holidays by our very own mechanic and community builder, Pete. Cake may also be available, but maybe someone else should make it so they can take the leftovers home.
