I've been amazed, actually, by the breadth and depth of interests here and it's been fun checking out the websites belonging to the various groups and adding in links. By the way, if you have a group that you would like to publicise (for free), or have a local business that you would like to promote, please get in touch. We now have a regular following and around 10 000 hits on our website each month.
It's easy for me to add new sections, for instance for businesses helpful to people buying new homes in the area and getting started on tackling the rather challenging gardening conditions on the Oakdale development. (Don't give up on that though. We are still using onions that we grew last year after digging up clay, putting in a ton of top soil and raising the veggie beds. Light Fantastic and Coinros garden centre were particularly helpful and Coinros also sponsored daffodil bulbs that we hope will brighten up the place in a few months' time.)
I might even try a few new things myself this year, like Claire, who is now our first officially elected representative. Well done, Councillor Vaughan for stepping up to the mark. I am not eligible for the over 60's club yet, or U3A, like Pete and Veronica, but I would like to start singing again on a regular basis - and not just at church. My friend Edna, who is a very cool 70-something, has inspired me with this and I would love to get to one of her concerts this year. I am very pleased that Oakdale Links has now links with the older and younger residents as we have feedback from the CONNECT form from the younger generation with some great ideas and will, I'm sure, be inspired by Pete and Veronica's positive approach to community. They came on holiday here for years, so living in the Forest is a long-held ambition finally realised and they are over the moon to be here.
Kids, it was Pete that picked up the litter on the play area....think about it. Is it his job? I have to say, he did so very cheerfully, so thanks, Pete and welcome, both of you. We are looking forward to getting to know you.
