Up to and including the time that the diggers went in, I was trying to prevent the space being taken as the swing could easily have been sited elsewhere, but it's in the plans for the development, which were decided before anyone moved in. However, the planning document says that locating of equipment is at the discretion of the developers, so I do not believe that nothing could be done to keep the space and move the swing. Oakdale has fallen down a deep hole somewhere between the developers and the planners. Possibly this was part of somebody's plan all along.
We could always tie it back and use the supports for goal posts, but the space is gone and the steady flow of small boys to our front door to ask if we are coming out to play and if they can borrow our football will stop as a result.
How do we build a community with no space to do it in?
Why were we given a grant to do community work only to have the only space available taken away?
What was the point of that then?
