We hadn't told him what film we were going to see, so it was lovely to hear him gasp in astonishment and pleasure when it turned out to be 'Planes' - by the same Disney team that made 'Cars' and 'Cars2', his favourite movies. We sing songs from these every morning on the way to school.
It was a great film and Coleford Merlin Cinema is lovely. Go if you get the chance. It's very clean and well maintained and they have booster seats for little ones. It was altogether a more pleasant experience than going to the huge cinema complexes they have in the West Midlands. (We haven't been for three years - sad but true!)
Anyway, I thought I would just share some of this film, which I first saw in the Arthouse Cinema in Cambridge, where Sanja, my Serbian friend and Luca, my Italian friend took me to begin to rectify my sad lack of cultural education. In Scotland, my friends were Welsh, Scottish and Geordie. It was very amusing when tourists stopped for directions, but their taste in cinema was more along the lines of 'It' by Stephen King. Not being one to chicken out, and sharing a lads' flat, I had no choice. I don't like clowns.
Anyway (again), this is for Luca, Sanja, and all the other friends I've shared cinematic experiences with through the years. I hope my son has wonderful times like these with his friends. (And, in reverse order, that he marries his childhood sweetheart, never has a broken heart, and takes her to the cinema on their first date. It's on my prayer list and has been since he was about 6 weeks old.) This is from Il Postino.
