The Christmas Tree Festival is coming up soon - the launch is a week on Friday, so on Wednesday, we will be taking the children to St Mary's after school to decorate the tree. We now have 30 trees entering the Festival, from businesses, schools and community groups from all over the town. Lydney Park Estate have donated a large tree for the church and some of the other trees. Traders in town have been very kind in sponsoring some of the costs, such as refreshments. For a fabulous evening, with music by the Forest of Dean Brass Band and singing by local school children, come and join us on Friday 7th at 7pm.
The star is also up on the church spire, which has recently had some work done on it to make it waterproof. Look out for it wherever you are in Lydney. It's amazing how the spire stands out in the landscape for miles around. I am fortunate enough to be part of the team looking after this wonderful Grade 1 listed building. If you want a warm welcome at Christmas time and are not able to come to a service, the church will be open on Saturday 15th, from 11am to 2pm. If you can come to a carol or crib service, great! Contact Lydney Parish for details and times, or check their website.
If you are a pastor, priest or minister at other local churches, please contact me to post details of Christmas services on the Oakdale Links website: email@example.com.
