We have been enjoying the warmth of the sun today though, with an impromptu game of badminton outside our house with our new neighbours while the little ones scooted and triked up and down the pavement. The new children's play area has been taking shape this week, despite the driving wind and rain during most of it. Well done, chaps! We were amused to see that there is a fish shape in the curved pathways that are taking place, that is very similar to the Ichthus symbol used by Christians. It stands for the Greek letters for "Jesus Christ, God's son, saviour", and was used as a secret symbol by 1st century Christians in Rome when they were in danger of being tortured and executed for their faith.
Somehow, the spark never quite went out though, and, like the Olympic torch, the flame has been passed from one generation to another. Torture still prevails in parts of the world, our problems are more subtle in the UK. I've been privaleged to meet Christians from Romania and China who have endured all for the sake of Jesus and they all have that light shining in their eyes. The darkness is great, but cannot and will not ever put it out. This li'l light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine!
Have a great weekend!
